2022.01.17 02:08 MaximumEffort433 More realistic violence (as opposed to just more -graphic- violence) is becoming detrimental to my enjoyment of movies and video games; the problem is getting worse as CGI and special effects continue to improve, and the "people" getting hurt on screen move closer to my side of the uncanny valley.
Consider for a moment that there's a difference between watching five minutes worth of aliens ripping people in half in the bloodiest, most over the top way possible, and watching five minutes of a man using a hammer to beat the shit out of his wife. The quantity or duration or amount of violence in a scene isn't the only metric of how violent a scene is, something also has to be said for the content.
Let me give you a prime example: A few years ago a new Devil May Cry game was announced, and the announcement trailer of DMC had the usual crazy gun play, swordsmanship, and acrobatics, followed by a brief scene in which Dante grabs a female robot around the hips and puts his cigarette out in her eye while she struggles, before going back to the game play combat footage. To be honest the juxtaposition of highly stylized and unrealistic combat against a very real feeling act of violence, was jarring. I adore Devil May Cry, it's one of the most fun game series I've ever played, but I don't think I'd enjoy it nearly as much if the violence were more down to earth and realistic, I'm not sure if I'd enjoy a game in which I stabbed a character and it took him five minutes to bleed out, y'know?
Right now, today, we're squarely in the uncanny valley, but soon we'll likely be past it, and that brings up a question that I can't even answer for myself: Will I want to shoot at things that are on my side of the uncanny valley?
People have talked about video games and violence for a long time, and it's always been bullshit, because one cannot play a video game today without realizing that it's all simulated. The best looking video game in the world still looks like a video game, with video game animations, and AI, and physics, video games remain unbelievable for more reasons than just the graphics... But there is some small part of me that worries what will happen when that line is blurred, if I'll still be able to enjoy those games, and what the implications would be if I did enjoy those games, once they become believably realistic and immersive. I can imagine experiencing real world guilt for virtual behavior because I just got all the same visual and auditory experiences associated with killing a person that I would get in real life.
(Just to note here, for the sake of pedantry: If a video game ever made me feel bad for playing it, I just wouldn't play it in the first place, that's super easy for me. I'm not lamenting that I can't clutch my pearls tightly enough or calling for federal legislation, like, I'm not laying awake at night worrying about not being able to play Borderlands 27 because of the realistic flesh and organ physics or the high resolution recordings of war wounded begging for death or whatever. Though I would personally prefer that Gearbox not make those choices... Okay, I don't care if some other franchise that I don't play makes those choices, I will just avoid that franchise, but I reserve the right a little bit to bitch if Borderlands does it, I'll at least be very sad that I couldn't play it.)
This whole post is just me thinking out loud, I just watched The Tomorrow War, which was kind of a campy, schlocky science fiction movie, then there was a really well rendered scene of people falling to their death and smashing their heads on concrete, and it was a very effective, very visceral scene. It wasn't emotionally effective because of the quantity of violence on screen, but the quality, it looked like real people falling to their death, real people breaking their necks, real people shattering their spines, if fifty people jumped off the edge of a building and hit all the outcroppings on the way down, I think that scene is pretty much what it would have looked like. And because of the scene's realism I had to look away, or chose to, or whatever the thing in the middle is. Fifteen seconds of watching realistic people die in realistic ways is not something my lizard brain enjoys very much. The recent Matrix movie did a similar scene, but it was well on the other side of the uncanny valley, and I enjoyed it a lot more because it was very easy for me to not see these CGI "people" as people, it didn't feel like watching a real time live action human tragedy, it felt like watching a schlocky science fiction special effect. I enjoyed the scene in the Matrix more because it was less believable and more expected.
I think back to Game of Thrones, and there are some spectacularly visceral special effects in that series, too... but I'm not sure I could watch fifty of them at once, I'm not sure I could watch a series in which scenes like Oberon's death happen in every episode, and frankly it's not a scene that I go out of my way to rewatch. (The one where the guy gets hit by the giant's arrow, though, is a masterpiece.) I guess the point is that as special effects improve, producers will benefit from being more mindful of how, when, and where they use them.
And to give the devil his due, here, I'm probably a bit more sensitive to realistic movie violence than most. People tell me that A Clockwork Orange is a cinematic masterpiece, and I believe them, but watching it twice was more than enough for my one lifetime. Meanwhile I find less believable, less realistic horror, like Event Horizon and the SAW movies, absolutely charming, and those things in Cloverfield that make your head explode need their own miniseries. But ultraviolence makes my stomach weak.
As with all things on reddit, I have no idea if this opinion will be popular or unpopular until I push the button, so here it goes.

Does anyone know if there’s any kpop groups or any kpop events happening in Florida this year? I feel like it’s so hard to find any events or anything in general around the Miami and west palm area.

Hello NewWest! I am here to ask about where I can post about my business? It's mostly just an online resell store but I'd like to get some more exposure to it so I was wondering where I could do that. Thank you.

2022.01.17 02:07 travlingwonderer Can you feel the head of the penis when bottoming?
Hello all. So, Im a virgin and while I'd like to change that soon(ish), I still like to play around by myself, and I want to get a dildo that feels as close to the real thing as possible. You see, I already have a dildo but it's got a distinctive head thats kind of firm so inserting it and pulling it out can be a bit uncomfortable, especially at faster rhythms and if Im squeezing at all.
Is that a realistic sensation? Penis heads seem squishy, even when erect, so it wouldn't seem like that is something designers would include if they're going for a realistic feel. Am I wrong?

2022.01.17 02:07 Object279_ Has anyone HPA'd an RPK-16?
Title. Basically im getting into hpa and asked some questions and got a lot of helpful info from the kind people here, but the thing im wondering is that the Motor grip for the RPK-16 only locks into place with a singular screw that screws into the motor cage (also acts as the motor height adjustment), which i cant have because i will be HPA'ing it. There doesnt seem to be any other screws or anything. Any know a work around for this or something? thanks in advance.

2022.01.17 02:07 CubeAvenger10 Low FPS than expected on GTX 1650 Laptop
I have a i5 11th Gen 8GB RAM 120Hz Refresh Rate Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Graphics Card and everything is installed on the SSD. I expected about 200 fps but I'm getting 80-90 fps with LOW video settings and one person I know has the same specs but has GTX 1050ti and a PC and gets 200+ fps. Does anyone know what to do for this? My Laptop is new. I have turned V-Sync off. Any solutions for getting the fps I want?

2022.01.17 02:07 ben_fullmetal If you didn’t signed a Roommate Agreements and left without notice because the roommate was mentally abusing you. Are you obligated to pay the next month rent?
Been trying to look it up, but seriously can’t find anything for the British Columbia area. So, though I’d ask here and possibly get some help. Like I said in the beginning. I didn’t signed a agreement or anything but left due to being mentally abused in the situation I was in so I left. Am I obligated to pay for the next month rent? I need answers thanks.
